Bow height damage bonus
Bows receive a damage bonus from firing from an elevated position. Ok, that's easy enough. But does that damage bonus apply to how far the arrow falls or just the height of the shooter? If it is how far the arrow falls wouldn't flatbows, with their massive arc size, have a sizable damage bonus over normal bows? ANyone tried this out or know anything about it?

I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure from experience that it is just based on the elevation from which it was fired compared to the elevation at which it impacts.
Also, with flatbows, you will have a much higher miss rate - especially after the first shot. Quote:

The reason for more damage from above is that your likely to hit them in the head, resulting in a critical hit.

From an elevated postion your chance of a criticle hit increases and your arrows tend to fall on the head and chest more often to score those.
From a lower position your chance to score a criticle hit decreases as you tend to score hits on the legs and feet from there. So that is that, Try to get above you oponents. |

Hmm, I didn't know that it was because of head hits, but would the large arc size of a flatbow cause more head hits? Visually, it appears that the arrow is coming down into the head rather than flying into the chest like a recurve bow.

How can i be sure? Go to the Ring of Fire mission and stand on the hill near the Ether Seal (at the fort). You can hit it from miles out of range with a flat/longbow and do much more damage than you would if you went down the hill and attacked there. |

stop reaching on the flatbow issue...
the flatbow has a strength and a weakness just like all other bows. PPl use it due to its' faster refire rate on non moving targets (due to its' high arch low arccuracy). It's the height of the Archer when they fire; not the arrows height in flight that effects the bonus. |
